(What a catchy name!)  We hope to be able to periodically update you with useful, timely information.  In this issue are several items that we hope are of interest to you, including the very important information on how to update your computer for the changes in Daylight Saving Time.  Be sure to let us know what you think of our newsletter.

Steve
Important!  Update Your Computer for the New Daylight Saving Time dates
DaylightSaving Did you know that beginning this year, Daylight Saving Time will begin 3 weeks earlier (March 11) and end 1 week later (November 4) than in previous years?  Your computer must be updated so it will understand the new Daylight Saving Time rules, or your computer's clock will be incorrect.  And, you should perform the update before March 11.

Microsoft has issued updates for Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 only!  Windows Vista does not need any updates.  We have found other updates available for other versions of Windows.

Complete instructions for checking your computer and updating it if necessary can be found in one of the Windows Tips at  the Master Software website.  Click on Windows Tips, then on the tip to Update your computer for 2007 changes in Daylight Saving Time.  Or, you can click here to go directly to the article.  You should make this update before March 11, 2007 to avoid confusing your computer.

Factoid:  It is Daylight Saving Time, not Daylight Savings Time.
Don't Upgrade to Windows Vista
NoVista Windows Vista has just been released as Microsoft's newest operating system.  However, it is significantly different from the Windows you are used to using, and may have a number of issues.  In addition, all of your hardware or software may not work with Vista.  Since it is a new operating system, we prefer to wait and see what problems (and solutions) develop before jumping in.

So, we do NOT recommend upgrading your computer to Vista.  Vista requires more hardware resources, so your existing computer might provide marginal performance.

Also, new brand-name computers that are bought in stores or on-line (with the possible exception of Business computers from Dell--you may be able to get these with XP) will come with Vista installed.  Even though the hardware is Vista-ready, you will still have some problems adjusting to this new operating system.

Master Software can stil provide computers and laptops with Windows XP Home, XP Pro, or XP Media Center.  Our computers include a 1-year in-home or in-office parts and labor warranty, delivery, setup, and transfer of data from your old computer.

AVG Expiring?  AntiVirus Recommendations
AVGLogo If you have AVG Free AntiVirus version 7.1, you have been getting messages that the program can no longer be used.  There is an updated AVG Free program available for non-commercial (meaning home) use.

First, uninstall your current AVG program using Start/Control Panel/Add or Remove Programs.  Then, go to the Master Software website, click on Windows Tips, and follow the link titled "Installing AVG AntiVirus".  Or, you can click here to go directly to the article.  Remember, AVG Free is ONLY for home use.  They have business and network versions available for purchase.  Master Software can help you choose and install the correct version of AVG for your situation.

TrendBOxWe currently do NOT recommend the 2006 or 2007 versions of Norton Internet Security, Symantec Internet Security, or McAfee Internet Security.  These programs have become "too big for their britches" and have caused a number of problems on many computers.  If you want a reasonably priced Internet Security Suite, we recommend Trend Micro's Pc-cillin Internet Security Suite, which can be used on up to 3 PCsClick here to get information on or to order Trend Micro'sPc-cillin Internet Security Suite.

Well, that's all we have room for this time.  If you have any suggestions for future articles, please let us know.  Please also let us know how we can help you.

Thanks for taking the time to read our newsletter.
Sincerely,

Steve Leven
